Dr. Bella Mironovna Guner brings over two decades of experience in child welfare, developmental psychology, and higher education to her role as Ethics and Compliance Officer at the Brien Center for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. With a deep understanding of systems-based practice and organizational integrity, Dr. Guner plays a vital role in advancing ethical standards and regulatory compliance across the agency.
Dr. Guner began her professional journey after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brandeis University, followed by 15 years in the nonprofit sector supporting children and families involved in the child welfare system. Her responsibilities evolved from direct care staff to clinician to Director of Quality Improvement, reflecting a deepening focus on systemic change and outcome-driven services.
While advancing her career, she earned both a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from Johns Hopkins University and a Doctorate in Developmental Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her academic work sharpened her ability to integrate theory with real-world practice—a strength that continues to define her leadership.
Following her work in child welfare, Dr. Guner transitioned into higher education. She served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Psychology at Maria College, where she guided curriculum development and academic policy. She also contributed to the field as adjunct faculty in the graduate psychology program at The College of Saint Rose.
At the Brien Center, Dr. Guner applies her combined experience in clinical services, program improvement, and academic leadership to promote transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making. Her ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex systems ensures that the organization continues to deliver high-quality care and support to the Berkshire County community.
