Lois Hobbs

Director of Human Resources
The Brien Center for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services

Lois Hobbs has worked in progressively responsible human resources roles for over 35 years, gaining significant experience in recruitment/retention, benefits administration, employee/labor relations, union contract negotiations, training and conflict resolution.

Lois earned a B.A. in Education from Lowell State College in Lowell, MA. She also completed a Certificate in Human Resources program at Teikyo Post University in Waterbury, CT.

As a seasoned HR Generalist, Lois helps managers understand the increasingly complex HR aspects of their jobs. She regularly attends Association for Behavioral Healthcare HR Committee meetings and Human Service Forum HR Roundtable meetings to stay current with the ever-changing world of rules and regulations impacting HR management.

Lois leads the Recruitment and Retention Strategic Goal Team at the Brien Center. They meet semi-monthly and have generated many new ideas to improve applicant flow for the agency. The team has also initiated a series of networking events, offering CEUs for Social Workers, Mental Health Clinicians and Nurses. Since both Brien Center staff and professionals from the community are invited, these events have both generated interest in employment opportunities and served to enhance staff retention.

Although the early years of Lois’ career were spent in for-profit retail HR management, she successfully transitioned to non-profit healthcare HR management when she joined Geer Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in 2001. Lois currently serves as the Director of Human Resources for the Brien Center and has been in the position since 2009.
